I am happy to report that both the "Peony Cottage Stand" & the "Ring around the Posies" plant stand (2 posts down) have sold! Thanks to those folks who bought them at River Edge Antiques!
Jolene and I will be painting and sanding all day for the Shady Lady of Darmiscotta, Maine today. If you ever happen to find yourself near this area off of Rt. 1....GO TO HER SHOP! Not only is she a fabulous designer of lamp shades (truly not your run of the mill) but she also has FAB taste in antiques! She has a knack for finding unusual stuff!
Conehead is hanging in there....when I left for work yesterday she looked at me like "what you're leaving me with this thing on my head? Is this some kind of joke? I thought I was the cutest most irrisistable yellow lab in the whole wide world! I want this freakin' thing off! No seriously Mom...don't leave me....don't go....I'll be good for now on...don't go...."
I dunno, maybe I'm just over sensitive.
I know that I am not the only one out there trying to make some sort of a living by using my own creativity. Thus I try not to moan & groan about the pressures of my life, painters block, bills to be paid, etc. But sometimes the little things that can slow you down in a day, are just too comical to get uptight at.....I think you've got to take the interuptions & setbacks, look at it all in a new light , and make it (somehow) work for you.
Did I mention last week that my 9 year old Lab, Rudy had a knee operation? Yes she blew out her knee, because at 9 years, she'll be damned if anythings going to slow her down!
I have a friend who comes and sands furniture for me a couple of days a week. She's without wheels at the moment, so I run to town and pick her up. (not a problem) So we get back to my house and she has not seen Rudy since the operation, and Rudy does the " oh Auntie Jolene...I love you..... it's been soooo long! Look at me, I'm so cute...I can run, I can jump, I can shake my butt all over the place..."
Jolene: AH JES? I THINK THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG
Me: OH OH
Jolene: IT'S LIKE A gaping hole
Me: OH OH
Jolene: YOU BETTER CALL THE VET
I fly into a panic.
OK, so my point? I am YET another day behind on work. I actually have clients waiting for pieces and no matter how hard I try I can't beat the constant interruptions! *sigh.... There's always tomorrow I guess.
Oh, and Miss Rudy? Well I was lectured by several of the girls behind the desk at the vets, they wanted to know why she had not been wearing her "elizabethean" collar. Maybe I thought she was more a Renaissance dog...(I wanted to say it but I didn't). Anyhoo she is stumbling around with this big plastic lampshade on her head, and I just feel terrible. We have dubbed her Conehead....and it aint far from the truth.
Just dropped these off at River Edge Antiques yesterday!
Yes....I happen to know that I shamelessly show off my garden every chance I get. What can I say, it makes a great backdrop!

This week at River Edge Antiques my "Purple Coneflower Bench" and "Apple Blossom Tea Tray" (May archives) have sold!
Many thanks to the two gals who bought these pieces...ENJOY!
for 2 special guys in my life
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Lots of happy thoughts going your way DAD...will see you Sunday!
And to my newest nephew GABE...one year old all ready?
LOVE YOU BOTH VERY MUCH!
This weekend we went up to Hubby's family camp in Eustis, Maine. Eustis is near many fun places, whether you ski, fish, boat or hike. I personally like it up there for R & R. I forgot my sketching journal, so I read a lot. The boys went fishing in Rangeley, Mom & I did a little antiquing. Nate Tower (10 years old) caught a lovely trout that we snacked on.
The view was one of the best...I tried to capture it, but sometimes a digital just isn't the same as a 35mm. The Lupin were in full bloom and literally followed us all the way up the driveway to camp.
A view from the camp

Sometimes I wonder....are we worthy?
I just LOVE "Bea's Diary" by Kerri Smith. Check out Bea's Parisian Escape. We all need one!
This past weekend I went to Ogunquit, Maine with my friends Gary, Mark and Suzy-Q. Lot's of fun, food & music! (The cosmopolitans weren't bad either)

The guy on the right married Hubby and I!
I think I was definetly in the mood for something a little more light and whimsical when I painted this chest yesterday! We finally have had beautiful weather for like 2 days in a row....and I think it's going to continue!
The chest was baby blue and dirty when I found it for $7.00 at an estate sale in coastal Maine. Needless to say it was one of the cheaper items at the sale.
A rough sanding and 3 coats of white cleaned it up tremendously! Adding 4 fence finials as legs gave this little chest more of a "cottage" like bench feel. Topping it off with a coat of satin poly will make it easy to keep clean. Giving the edges and corners a light sanding will warm the piece up and make it feel well worn and loved!

My sister Jen sent this cute picture of my Little Southern Nephew Sam.

We miss you both! Can't wait to see you in the Fall and to finally meet Heath!
Jen, please explain to Heath that he is to be our tour guide in Atlanta, he made have his hands full with the 3 of us Foxy Chics....but it will be an experience he wont soon forget!
