Oh fabulous day!
Yesterday I met up with two special blogging gals. Mary ann who I have been blogging with for quite a while now, and Susan who is another Maine Girl and practically a neighbor!
We started off at Susan's lovely home, where we got a sneak peak at her studio and her newest pieces. Susan's children were adorable, and we were treated to some play time with the kids! We all jumped in our vehicles and headed to Bath, a beautiful little downtown.... where we had some coffee, treats and did a little bargain shopping. We chatted about life, art and family.
I was thrilled to pieces to meet you girls!

Susan and Mary ann

Me and Mary ann...and I must mention my FAB Tiffini Elektra necklace I'm wearing!
We all exchanged wonderful little gifts. Mary ann made us a collection of the cutest Halloween tags evah'!! I have an idea of how I want to use them for decorating...so I'm going to wait and show you them when I'm done! (you girls have me in the Halloween decorating spirit!) But here are some tags that are for sale...go check out her Etsy...she's got all kinds of pretty papery goods!

Susan gave us notecards with her beautiful collage art!! I don't want to send them to anyone, I want to keep them all to myself! (so if you do perhaps get one in the mail, then you know you are ultra~special!)
It is still a bit too dark to take a picture this morning, so I'll give you a close up shot of Susan's beautiful work. This graced the front of one of the notecards...

Go check out her fabulous art for sale!
Thanks again girls for a wonderful afternoon! I can't wait to hook up again, and I can't wait to hang out on the Cape next fall at the justBe creative gathering! (did I mention that Susan and Mary ann are both teaching workshops there as well??)

Now it's back to work today.....geesh, all ready??
We are heading up to the camp this weekend with 6 friends. Judy and I plan on doing some hiking, and leaving the kayaks behind. At some point this week, before we leave, I have some "Fabulous Felt Flowers" I want to put up in the shop....there's just not a lot of time, but I will try! (to those of you who have emailed and asked about them...THANKS!)
xoxoxoxox
New items going in the shop today!
Two new JUNQUEY LOVELIES! It's been a while!

I love this double stranded necklace, and the fun of it is, you can twist up the ends...or leave as is....see here and here!

It was time! I've had a lot of inquiries about these...I do have a few more in the works too!
And a new necklace added to the REVIVED RELICS category!

ummmmm....yeah....this is probably my favorite as it is made in the true spirit of Junque Revival
And another LOOK CLOSELY !
(you all keep me busy with these little buggers!)

I love making these...and as some of you know, these were my very first experiment with jewelry and collage. I'm going to continue selling these at $18.00....I think it's nice to have something under $20.00 in the shop!
I am still looking for friends who may want to trade business cards for promo packs! (Tif...I know you're sending yours...I will get mine in the mail soon!) I found some cute but inexpensive envelopes that I put all of your cards in with each order...and I have to tell you a lot of my customers LOVED it! So let's hear it for good karma and spread the Indie Love!
xoxoxoxo
I am squeezing in this post while getting ready for work and trying to finish a felt flower pin for my Memere's b-day! Why does it seem that there is not enough time in the day anymore?
I have been hooking up with some wonderful artists lately! Over the fall I am going to give each and every one of them "High Honors"! These are girls, who are not only exremely talented....they are wonderful, FUN & kind!
But before I do...I wanted to show you my first sterling piece that I made from PMC.

tadaaaaah!
It's much more difficult to work with then polimer...or the other form of clay that I use for my jewelry, but I think with some practice I'll get the hang of it.

HIGH HONORS
First I want to mention Maria from Sweden. She has a cute little web shop called Sweet Daisy...and she really does sell the SWEETEST pieces of jewelry evah! She aslo makes some wonderful looking soaps and other body products! The only thing is I'm not sure if she ships to the U.S.!? Oh Mariaaaaaaa.....give us an answer in the comments here will 'ya? Anyhoo, I am a proud owner of one of her felted bracelets, and I LOVE IT TO PIECES!
The next fabulous gal you should scope out is Yiwen from Oriental Rose. She is my jewelry gal-pal and she's a doll! She sells her pretty pieces right on her blog...so shopping is a no fuss experience! I'm thinking Christmas here people! She is enthusiastic about jewelry making, and she's probably one of the nicest souls to boot! Go give her some love!
THIS adorable chica I have mentioned before....but if I'm giving out High Honors, well then I have to mention her again, as she is much deserving! Kelly Rae is a beautiful spirit in my eyes, and it shines through in her work. She has made a big move...from comfort zone to the unknown, but she keeps on creating, working through her changes, and I really feel her work has taken on a whole new layer of light, experience and maturity! I am currently the proud owner of an original, and I'm so going to have me another piece of hers after the holidays! I am proud of you girl!
And last but not least I would like to mention a wonderful~fabulous photographer. UNFORTUNATELY she is not selling her pieces yet, but it's pure eye candy, so go over to her Flickr and check out her lovely work. When I see Melissa Webb's photos, words like, "European, dream-like, beautiful color, gorgeous composition, soothing & beautiful" come to mind. She is a lovely person, and had graciously given me permission to show you some of her work here!
It was very hard to pick just one...so...here are a couple!

hahaha...OK...I better stop...I just love ALL of her photos! xoxo

Speaking of eye candy, I'd love to hear what you all think of this little collaboration between Hope and I??

That's right! Hope's adorable little collages framed out in my one-of-a-kind pendants.
Hopefully we'll have these done by early November!
HURRAY for talented friends!
Some of you wanted a heads up when I was going to put the vintage knitting patterns & postcards up for sale at the shop. I will be selling these fab wares at the "estate" section in the shop!
I will be working on it this afternoon - Saturday! I am also putting on other vintage goodies too....so you may want to keep an eye on my Flickr!

VINTAGE KNITTING PATTERNS

AND MORE....

I love labor Day weekend. For me it means cooler nights, crisper air and harvest time. Soon I will think about bundling up my herbs to dry, so I can use them over the winter. Yesterday as I walked alone along a path in the woods, I thought about how much I love my hiking boots....no seriously. I love this time of year because I can wear wide legged jeans and fleece socks. Long sleeved tees with a sweatshirt wrapped around my hips....and hiking boots solid on my feet.
Yesterday Jon and I took a drive up north a bit to fly fish. He was sweet enough to pack my gear, but the reality is, I just haven't been feeling up to it. On the way there we passed about a gazillion lawn sales, so we decided on the drive up that I would drop him off at the river and lawn sale for a couple of hours. I couldn't kick him out quick enough. NOT because I don't love him, but because it has been a while since I've saled. Try like two years! Suddenly, I had the fever like the old days....and I was in junquing heaven! If I was still in the business, oh-the-things I could have bought and sold. But these days I look for wares for myself, and smaller simpler pieces I can work into my art.....so a lot of goodies got left behind to become someone elses treasure.
BUT, this little baby I DID NOT leave behind....and for a mere $10.00 it was mine!

I have been searching for just the right one for years, and have passed up quite a few of them, but the color, the basket...and THAT SEAT....it was love at first sight! Even Jon likes it (I think).
I found other fun goods as well. I'm happy to report that I bought a big lot of vintage postcards from 1904~1979. I have kept just a couple and plan on selling the rest in little inexpensive bundles out of my shop. I may do a few on Ebay as well. I'll be sure to post here, but if you want a heads up, let me know!
Here are the little sweeties I kept.

These are from the 40's and my fave is the sand dollar postcard. I just love it's graphic goodness!
I also found a ton of Vintage "Workbasket" magazines amongst other vintage knitting and crocheting mags that I plan on selling in little bundles too....so again, if you want a heads up let me know, it should be this week at some point.

I've been peaking through, and they are loads of fun. I think a creative person could rework some of these patterns into some pretty groovy stuff. Some of the baby patterns are absolutely adorable and I'm not sure I would want to change a thing!
When I went back to the river, Jon and I jumped in the truck and headed to another bank for him to fish. I had brought all of the fixings to make homemade italians. I also brought all of the pieces for my "Fabulous Felt Flower" pins. So I sat in a chair he had brought for me and sewed to my hearts content on the banks of the river, watching my man, thinking how handsome he looked, thinking about fall and digging out my favorite old wool sweaters to wear for this favorite time of year.

I have been dreaming up new ideas for jewelry too. My sketch pad is becoming full! Sometimes my ideas don't always work out so well, and sometimes they do. I dream of art. I do. When I was painting furniture, and had order upon order, I never dreamed up ideas...(I may have had a few nightmares due to stress)...but I never had these flowery, flowing dreams full of texture and color. It is very strange. I find myself becoming frustrated as I have to work 3 days a week as a bartender and if I have a crazy busy night at the pub, my art dreams intermix with bar scenes, chatter and people. I find writing does help....but I hope I can find a way to seperate the two a little better! (I actually like my part time job, getting out of the house and making some great cash!!!)....but it can be draining to the senses sometimes.
ANYHOO.....I've recently made these two pieces.
La Fluer was a dream....
Art clay, many layers of my secret "goop", silver wire & a mix of pretty beads.
The French Connection
I did not "dream" up this one. It's an idea I've been playing with on the sketch pad for a while. I've also reworked the piece several times before I got it just right. Have I ever mentoned that I test wear every piece before I sell them?
I made the three pendants to frame around vintage french text. Steel rings hold the piece together and, as always, I use a sterling clasp.
I hope you all have managed to have a great holiday weekend. We had a fab little dinner party last night and I served up grilled pork roast, grilled sweet potatoes, black bean and corn salad and our own little version of a Cosmopolitan.
Do you love adventure? Love to create? Love to meet new people?
Are you just dying to hook up with some of your favorite blogging pals?
Well then join us on the Cape next fall for the justBe Connected Gathering!
You will hear me talk of this wonderful gathering often as I will be teaching 3 workshops on jewelry making! WOO~HOO...I'm way excited!
I am also excited as I get to hook up with a couple of my favorite blogging pals!! Mary Ann & Lia will both be teaching workshops as well and I can't wait to hang with them!!!
There will be a charity contest, creative bazaar, yoga in the morning, communal dinners, and a main gathering room filled with art supplies to share with your creative friends!
And all of this will be taking place on the Cape in Mass. in beautiful Hyannis!
Check out the scheduled events!
Registration start Oct. 12th. I will be sure to give you all a reminder!
There just may be ways you can get involved and help! Contact Melba for more details!
Hope you all plan on having a fun filled weekend! We are mixing it up a bit...a little work and a little play. We have lots of winterizing to do to this old place still! BUT...I don't believe I've mentioned our NEW WINDOWS and DOORS! (this should help keep the heat in, no more cold drafts!!) It also means NO MORE PLASTIC...I can't even tell you how much that sucked! I will take a picture soon!
The Big question is.....DO I PAINT THE DOORS RED AGAIN??
