NYC

A much overdo post on the NYC trip!

It was crazy, busy and hectic, but I think for the most part we all had a good time! I'm pretty sure we ran my Mom ragged!

Friday afternoon we arrived at the hotel, and decided to hit the street and eat immediately as we were starving. We stayed in lower Soho at the Sohotel on the corner of Broome and Bowery. We were basically on the cusp of Chinatown, and Little Italy. I would highly recommend this hotel!! It was remodeled about a year ago ...and it shows. The staff was also wonderful to deal with and the dude that manages the place knows his stuff! We had a 3 bed room...and from what Dawn tells me, was actually pretty spacious for NYC. (I thought so too) The room had new hardwood floors and bath fixtures. A flat screen TV, ceiling fan, and regular fan was cool too. THE ONLY THING is that there is no elevator...this did not bother us so much, but some folk may have diffuculty with that!

SO...back to Friday Lunch, we stumbled upon a rehearsal at the Italian restaurant we ate at...remember Fred Savage from the Wonder Years? Or better yet...the guy with the mole on his face in one of the Austin Powers movies? Well he and whoever else were having this rehearsal in the restaurant, so we ate and watched. I thought it was quite boring, but Ma was thrilled to death! Hey...not bad for your first hour in the city!

Later that night we hooked up with Hope and Dawn and shopped some more. Mom was beat, so she hit the room, and the four of us girls met up with Dawn's Husband, Tom in the Meat packing district. There they treated us to a night of cocktails and tappas at some cool trendy bars. It was a BLAST...fun, fun, fun! Tom is a ball to hang with...and he is the perfect match for Dawn! They are such a cute couple!

Here is a shot Tom took of us in one of the fab bars Friday night. Hope said that poor Judy did not come out well in this, so we cropped her out for her own good!

Saturday was the big flea market day! What fun! We hit two FAB flea markets and I filled the old back pack to it's tippity top! All of us bought goodies! Just a small list from all of us: vintage ribbon, buckles, buttons and jewelry. Old paper, photos and metal. Antique glassware, boxes and bakelite. hmmmm...intrigued yet? Well I can guarantee that some of those items will come out in pieces of art from Hope and I! OH! I just remembered...Hope took pictures of some of her goodies! I plan on doing the same soon!

SOooooo...the rest of Saturday was really shopping and walking...and well, I'll admit, the cocktails from the night before proved to be a bit distracting to each of us throughout the day! (we all had our moments!) Like I told Hope...I guess friends who plan on being "life long" friends have to put up with the grumpy moments too!

Saturday evening, Hope and Dawn headed back to Queens, from our hotel. I thought that was the end of the night BUT Mom looked at us and said, "let's go back out there!" Judy and I were shocked as she looked like she was ready for PJ's! So away we went...to Little Italy and had a wonderful meal at "Il Buffalo's". Yummy rissoto, focaccia and wine was a perfect ending to a looooong day!

Sunday Mom, Judy and I trecked through Soho slowly, savoring the art, people and shops. We hit a Young Designers show that is apparently there every Saturday...(on Mulberry St.) That was fun! We hit some of the all time faves, like Anthropologie and others.

We made the trek to Purl. I'd been dying to check it out, but I have to tell you all how dissapointed I was! I always hear such wonderful things! YES...they had wonderfully expensive yarns...and Yes it was cute....but I'm thinking that we are very spoiled here in Maine when it comes to yarn stores! Not only do most of our shops carry all that they had (and MORE)...they carry lots of kniting parafanelia to boot. And our shops of course have some of the best local yarns from Maine Alpacas, Sheep and Llamas. Also our stores are HUGE in size, leaving lots of room for thinking and pondering. If you ever come to Maine and want to hit yarn stores...just give me a shout and I'll give you a list of some of my favorites!

Sunday night we met Dawn and Hope back at the hotel. We went to a wonderful restaurant called Peasant...all in Italian. (I am a rissoto freak)...so I had yet another bowl, it was pumpkin sausage rissoto. (and it was damn good) I shared it with Mom and she shared her very thin crust pizza with me! We all had wine...and THE DESSERTS....oh my...we really did splurge! But it was a wonderful evening, spending it with my nearest and dearest girls!

Unfortunately...the constant over~loaded back pack made it hard for me to want to carry my camera around...and I just didn't get the best of photos! Here are a few and you can visit Hope's site to see more!

Yes...I touch them everyday. My splurge purchase in Soho.

Shopping the streets of Soho

Wild Ginger (Pan Asian Vegan Cafe)  ~YUMMY~ ....highly recommend it!!! 380 Broome St. between Mott & Mulberry. This place was practically across the street from the hotel....we ate here the last day of out trip for lunch before heading to the airport. It was a delight. I will eat there again in the Spring!
