Apologies and CONTEST!

UGH! Yes I'm alive! I can't seem to shake this weird stomache/migraine thing I have! And to add to the pleasure, I threw my back out...basically I feel like I'm falling apart! I do apologize to my dear bloggy friends, who take the time to visit me! I'll be back sooner then you think!

I've decided to throw a little contest! In the midst of being over tired, sick and trying to maintain some sort of Holiday cheer...I managed to have a little dinner party of 6 this weekend. We decided that turkey WOULD NOT be on the menu....that we wanted to spice up our weekend, and take a BREAK from the Holiday madness! We made margaritas and served up all kinds of tasty Mexican food! We lit candles, played some cool tunes and had a wonderful mellow evening. Now I could tell you stories of CRAZIER gatherings that we've hosted....but I'm going to leave that up to you!

In 500 words or less email me your favorite gathering story no later than Sunday Dec. 17th! You can tell me about the food, decor, tunes and kooky guests. It can be a silly~funny~outrageous tale, or it can be enlightening & meaningful! REGARDLESS...the story that grabs me the most will be published here and at Junque Revival...

AND YOU WILL WIN THIS!

LA FLUER

DON'T BE SHY!

OR FEEL FREE TO LEAVE YOUR STORY HERE IN THE COMMENTS!

(IT MAKES IT KINDA FUN!)

I've got to run, but I'll catch up with some of you REAL soon!

okay - this is a story of a very long time ago when I was somewhere around 22 (that would make it about 36 years). Times were interesting - it was the 60s mind you.

A friend decided to hold a concert in the wilds of Virginia (after the success of the big one in New York), had the farm rented and the tickets printed. Lots and lots of tickets. Well, the town's people pitched a fit. And the town father's finally gave in and made the farmer cancel.

So there we all were in my living room (10 - 15 of us) wondering what to do with all those tickets. Why - shoot them with rubber bands of course! Every last one of them. We, Gals against Guys, used the stairs, we used pillows from the couch and blankets to fashion our "castles" from which we zinged every last one of those tickets all night long.

And long about 4 am someone came up with finding ticket #1. I don't think we ever did find ticket #1, but I know we found one below #10.

Do I need to tell you I was finding tickets in that house for the next 2 years that I lived there? (and I'll bet there's still some in the floor boards to this day!).

It was fun and crazy and the talk of our crew for years - "hey, do you remember when Al had all those tickets...." and we were off down memory lane.

that's my submission!

So I just wrote out a huge message with a funny party story, and it didn't seem to register. Arg. I'm not typing it out again, I'll just tell you sometime. I wasn't competing for the necklace anyway, so oh well.
Hope you're feeling better.

Yikes...sorry to hear you've been under the weather. We've been under the weather quite literally here on the Sunshine Coast and I'll use that term loosely from here on in. Three days and two nights of unheard of snowfall and cold that left everyone stranded, brought down trees (one within feet of my back door), stopped beach walks in their tracks and had us digging out from under the heavy snow for hours at a time. Heaven only knows what plants and shrubs will survive until the balmy winter weather returns. Stay warm and snuggled up...thinking of you on the east coast.

Hmmm, the story I am thinking of involves you so I do not think it is fair if I play... but that necklace is lovely... I will try to come up with another gathering story to submit.

Well, since not many people seem to be posting funny stories (I bet they're emailing them though!), I'll retype the one I lost last weekend. I LOVE the necklace, but you give me enough of your beautiful creations, so I'll share the story just for fun, not to compete.
Last christmas my friend Julie had just moved into her new (first) house. She decided to throw a little party to celebrate all the painting, fixing, cleaning, and decorating she had done to spruce up her new home.
We had a gift swap, with the theme of "entertainment." One of the gifts was a game (whose name I forget) similar to sharades, but like on crack. In the game, each person draws a card with things to act out and rolls a special die with conditions under which the things have to be acted. For example, you might have to keep one hand on your head while acting, or keep your hands in fists. Well, we were having quite a competitive game, and of course we were partaking in the food and drink of the season at the same time.
Before we knew it, red wine had been spilled on her new carpet (that might have been me??) and her new floor-to-ceiling curtains had been pulled down (not me!).
Well, as if that weren't enough to get Julie's panties in a bunch, our friend Jenn, the most vivacious of the bunch by far, decided to attempt a huge come-from-behind victory by acting something out while hopping on one leg. FYI: this is never a good idea after several hours of drinking!! In one graceful move, she catapulted over the arm of the recliner and into the nicely decorated xmas tree, crushing many of the pretty presents underneath and pulling the tree down in one fell swoop. There she lay amongst broken decorations and tree branches, wondering what the hell had just happened while we tried to keep from pissing our pants laughing.
Needless to say, that put an end to the celebrating, but it continues to provide good conversation whenever we need a good laugh. We are all wondering how she'll top that his year!
