Gypsy Soul......

Gypsy Purple has called out on all of us Gypsy Souls to "live in the moment and dance in the moonlight". So here is a little story about my weekend, inspired by her....

Big Daddy and I were supposed to go to NYC this weeknd, but due to a big ole snowstorm, the flight was cancelled and we have rescheduled the trip for next weekend.

Now, I'm a traveler at heart. I always have been. In the years before I met Jon, I had a very hard time staying still. Some of my friends dubbed me "The Gypsy". I moved from place to place, job to job, and even relationship to relationship. I really do have a restless soul. I have happily settled down here in the country with Jon for the better part of 9 years now. He has captured my heart, but he lets my soul free. He has figured out the riddle to me.

Jon asked to come on this trip, and well, I was surprised. He is a fisherman, happy in his own state, traveling when it has to do with fishing. It has worked for us...I like to hang with my girls when I'm on the road. But he gets bored too, and I think he's ready for a little adventure.

ALL WEEK, I've been planning and thinking about our weekend together. I couldn't wait to go to Dean & Deluca to buy some wine, cheese and bread. I couldn't wait to show him the little that I have learned of NYC so far. I kept thinking about a totally rockus handmade belt that I did not buy the last time, but planned on it this trip. Wanderlust grabbed hold of me like it always does. So what a dissapointment to know our trip was cancelled. But I have to tell you, it was such a good thing in so many ways! I have the flu... (YES, the same one I've had for 18 DAYS NOW!) But for some reason, I got real sick again this weekend. Friday there was terrential rain in NYC. So, I think it's a good thing we rescheduled!

BUT! I woke up Saturday morning with that inner restlessness. (YOU all know what I'm talking about!) It was 5:00 am, and I couldn't sleep. What does a Gypsy Soul do? GO SCAVENGING OF COURSE! Up and out the door I went, with just under an hours drive to the coast of Rockland, I went to another one of my favorite antique co-ops. (NOTE: had to make a quick stop for tissues and Alka Seltzer cold medicine) (romantic, isn't it??) Anyhoo....I needed to get lost in treasures and history for a couple of hours, roaming the aisles and booths, letting my mind wander, waiting for special pieces to call my name. It's always been a wonderful quick fix to chase away that nagging feeling for me.

On the way home, my head was spinning, I had the chills and I was having a hard time keeping my eyes open.

But I have to tell you, I was rewarded....

vintage jewlery, glass buttons, bakelite buttons, cool hardware & old books

So the minute I got home. I headed upstairs to bed for a couple of hours. Jon woke me up around 4:00, and though we were supposed to go visit his Dad, I just couldn't do it. I came downstairs and went straight to my bags of treasures that I had thrown on the kitchen table. That bag of goodies was the first thing I though of after being woken.

And in true Gypsy Spirit I created with my found treasures...

I am not finished....It's time to bring out the old papers and see what I can come up with for that wonderful flat space! It's just DYING to be collaged! I will have some new REVIVED RELICS in the shop by tonight.

While antiquing, I picked up the crystal buttons especially for a secret project I've been involved in. Here is just a sneak peek...

And here you can read JUST A BIT about our project. Through this project, I have met some amazing woman, and a small group of 5 of us made this bracelet for a fellow artist and all around wonderful gal. I'm going to send you over there, because Ruth words everything so perfectly.

So as you can see, that old Gypsy Soul is still within me. I have my ways of feeding it's spirit, to keep it happy and satisfied.

What do you do when your Gypsy Soul calls upon you?

The torrential rain, must've washed away all of that snow... NYC is ready for your arrival now! ;)

I love going antique-ing too... there's a few nice places I can take you to locally when you come visit if you'd like. One in seaside is right on the beach, and has a lot treasures just waiting.

I missed so many of your posts... I'm cursing bloglines right now!! Time for me to catch up!

First of all, I hope you've finally been able to shake off the flu for good. Your gypsy finds are fabulous...those Bakelite buttons would be worth the whole trip for them alone. I checked out the link to the incredible and breathtaking bracelet that was pieced together with love...a power bracelet if I ever saw one.

Hey Jess,
Long time...I was checking things in our place in Dubai,UAE and ran into a photo of Jon!(Fishing)!I guess all of our Gypsy souls are restless at times and some times still.I guess the point is we always endulge them...good bad or indifferent.THATS WHAT MAKES US!I am glad to hear you had an adventure and that you and Jon are well.Who knew there would be a photo of Jon an Arabic internet!(I guess we are all gypsys in one way or another)!Keith and I have become quite comfortable here.I love Dubai, the people, markets, and culture. I hope to keep traveling further...You and all on the blog should "google" it as there is a developing art scene here.Say hello to Jolene and Beth.

I have a gypsy soul too!
I Moved So much in my 20's just because...
Now I am settled too and my soul often longs to travel, but I have to do most of my traveling using my imagination and vicariously through others (because of the children)
But this summer they will be old enough to stop when I say so and not run out into traffic. I hope to do a little bit of local exploring to other cute towns that are around me.

Hope you are feeling better. Love your treasures and your eye...you have quite an eye for treasures and you have a beautiful heart and an adventerous soul!

XO,
Melba

So sweet that Jon decoded the riddle of you. Love that.

And rain or shine, sickness or health. . . antiqueing is the thing to do! And yes, you were rewarded handsomely too! :)

wOW! Thanks Gyspy for sending me here. First time on your blog and your so like me. I love second hand stores and treasures to create with. Just love what you have done. Things like this usually happen for a reason, the Romantic get away shouldn't be too far behind. Glad to have found you.
